Auto body repair is divided into four areas of study:  metal repair, plastic repair, refinishing, and painting.  Metal repair involves procedures for repairing and replacing body panels on a vehicle.  This might involve welding, or the use of structural adhesives.  Students are also trained in the use of a variety of plastic repair products. Refinishing involves spray gun techniques, types of paints, thinners, reducers and other areas involved in painting.
